I love this. My husband is that very same sort of guy. Folks always ask why we got married mere days before my birthday – for me, it was a way to guarantee that we’d always have a celebration. Otherwise, I think it would all just fade away out of his mind.

Glad you had a great day! I’m sure you got tons of birthday kisses from the pets you were working with (and that could anyway).

What an amazing coincidence to see this post this morning – it’s my birthday! My golden birthday, no less. I’m afraid I’m the guilty party when it comes to not making a big deal out of birthdays. My husband always goes all out to make it special, but when it’s his, he usually ends up picking out a present way in advance and I’m bad about cards, so his birthday is never quite as exciting as he would like. I’m not sure it’s going to get any better either, our daughter was born this year the day after his (much to his relief, labor didn’t start until 45 minutes after his birthday ended, he didn’t want to share), so it will probably be all about her from now on.

Happy Birthday!! I feel the same way about my birthday, too! I LOVE it! With my bday being at the end of May, I choose to celebrate ‘Birthday Month’s, which has gotten me into trouble with my credit card before ;) .

I hope you have a great day!

Happy Birthday from a fellow Virgo who feels your pain!

I LOVE This! You just described me and my family growing up, and my DH to a T. I have one additional problem. My DH’s birthday is tomorrow and mine is the day after (30th). Augh. It is so fun to have to plan your own Birthday and your husband’s at the same time, especially when he is an “Ambivalent Birthday Guy.”

Happy Birthday!

My birthday is next Thursday and I have already given DH strict instructions- I must have the flip-flop island-themed cake, in CHOCOLATE, with VANILLA frosting. Oh, and there will be shopping involved, whether he likes it or not!

Happy happy birthday! Luckily my thinking has rubbed off on my husband. When we first met? Card and gift bought at the CVS, wrapped in the plastic CVS bag (which is bad considering they have wrapping paper and tape there as well). Last year? Limo, dinner, the works.

I completely know what you mean. DH’s birthday is 23 days before mine and DD’s is 13 days before mine. If we don’t make a May or June baby, I am secretly hoping that Baby #2 will be born in the weeks proceeding DH’s b-day (even if our kids end up with close birthdays they will NOT share a party!)…then My (mom’s) birthday can follow a few weeks later and every year I can tell DH he better come up with something good since I would have just endured (lovingly) 2 children’s birthday and his.
I am with you! I love birthdays….alas, mine passed last week with very little fanfare. Nothing compared to DH turning 35 and DD turning 1.

Oh, I hear you!

I started a 30-day countdown in college for my birthday and if anyone forgot it, woe was them.

As I’ve gotten older, it’s become less of a public deal, but in casacaudill, it’s a very important day, not to be forgotten. Unfortunately, because I am married to a man who doesn’t like surprises and therefore cannot also plan surprises, has left the birthday planning to me. Sooo … I’m going to Hawaii for my 30th – two days from now!

you have inspired. I will reclaim my birthday!!!!

I have the same problem as silentbunny. my birthday is the 21st of Dec and I always got shafted. When I grew up, I made the decision to celebrate my birthday. My DH is like yours on steroids. He truly doesn’t understand but tries.

I have less than 4 months to plan. I hope that’ll be enough. hehehehe

Happy Birthday Jesvet!

I, too, am reclaiming my inner birthzilla this year. I turn 30 (eek!) in December, and I have already announced to my DH that I WILL have a BIG birthday party this year and it WILL be done MY way! :D

Happy Birthday! Mine was yesterday, and I don’t know if it’s my age (33) or the fact that it fell on a WORK DAY, but my b-day this year was “just another day”. DH did come through with dinner and presents (after yelling at me the day before the blessed day because I didn’t give him a list–hi, how about a surprise gift?). I will say that for my 30th, I took the day off, went to the spa and he flew 2 of my best friends up and we had a party. But, 33 was not terribly exciting. I definitely agree–announcing that it’s your birthday, or taking the day off for it, is great. Otherwise, *sigh* it’s just another Monday. :-)

I’m not the only one like this then! As a kid, I used to dream up my birthday parties at LEAST a month before the occasion! This year I special ordered my cake from my dad, who always makes the cakes. I had chocolate with the special chocolate frosting mixed with whipped cream with blueberries on top! Yum!
